- "Planet Radiology" – an entire imaging ecosystem to explore at the European Congress of Radiology 2025

The European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2025 is set to captivate attendees from February 26 to March 2, 2025, in Vienna, with its innovative theme, “Planet Radiology.”
This year’s congress will focus on the intersections of sustainability, global health equity, and scientific innovation, offering a diverse and inspiring programme for radiologists and allied healthcare professionals worldwide.

Prof. Andrea Rockall, Congress President, emphasised the significance of this year’s theme, stating, “‘Planet Radiology’ isn’t just a call for progress in radiology - it’s a challenge to imagine a world where healthcare itself is a vehicle for sustainability, inclusivity, and positive global change. We’re aiming to inspire radiologists and healthcare professionals to consider their role in a broader global context, to be changemakers not just in healthcare, but in planetary health. We look forward to welcoming a truly international community to Vienna as we explore the future of radiology together.”

Programme Highlights:

Sustainability Initiatives: ECR 2025 will feature sessions on environmentally friendly practices in radiology. These will be supported by congress initiatives like discounted international and Austrian rail travel for attendees, helping to reduce the congress’s carbon footprint.

Global Health Equity: The “Imagers Fixing the World” programme will spotlight inspiring projects advancing global equitable healthcare. Highlights include the use of AI in remote regions, teleservices in conflict zones, and green innovations in medical imaging.

Scientific Innovation: Advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning will take center stage at the AI Theatre and Exhibition. The debut of Pixel Pandemonium will provide a platform for cutting-edge AI/ML technology still in development, fostering collaboration and early-stage feedback. The Cube will also make a return, showcasing the latest in interventional radiology through workshops and exhibitions.

New Formats and Beloved Traditions: Attendees can expect new format such as the “Ask Me Anything” sessions, offering further opportunities for open discussion and debate. ECR classics such as the Image Interpretation Quizzes, industry exhibition and ECR Party will return.

Opening Ceremony: This year’s ceremony, themed “Wonder,” promises an unforgettable experience with spectacular performances and visual storytelling across four unique elemental acts.

The congress will welcome radiologists, radiographers, and healthcare professionals from across disciplines, emphasising collaboration and knowledge-sharing. For those unable to attend in person, a comprehensive virtual programme will ensure global accessibility, with sessions available live and on-demand.

ECR 2025 will offer a transformative journey through science, sustainability, and society.
